Corporate Update: a message from Chad Bosler, Director of Production
The SMC family extends its' deepest sympathies to all of those
in Japan who have been affected by the recent earthquake and
tsunami.
SMC is helping the few employees that have been displaced from
their homes by providing food and shelter to these employees and
their families. In the next few days our North American
headquarters will begin collecting food and other donations to help
these employees. It is our goal to send care packages to these
displaced employees and their families as soon as possible.
Since the earthquake and tsunami took place, our management team
in Japan has been working hard to provide an accurate and detailed
assessment of our production facilities and equipment.
I am very happy to communicate that all production facilities
are structurally sound and only a few received minor damage. The
damage that did take place was repaired over the weekend.
Due to government mandated rolling black outs, plants are now
running at 60% capacity. The production facilities are working
until noon this week to provide employees enough time to get home
before the black outs are put into effect. The plan is to have all
production facilities back up to 100% capacity by March 17th.
Over the weekend, our production management in Japan also took a
full assessment of our suppliers. We are also happy to report that
our suppliers had little damage and are also working at the same
capacity as SMC with restriction related to the black outs.
We will continue to provide regular updates as we receive
information. Inventory of all shipments that were in-transit, in
customs and already in the air bound for the United States has been
taken. This information has been provided to our customer service,
inside sales representatives and material control. Our goal is to
continually add to that list as the information is provided.
I want to also thank all of our employees, direct customers,
distributors and neighboring businesses who have extended offerings
of help. We are completely taken aback by all of the well wishes
and support that we have received. Your communications and thoughts
have been sent to our headquarters in Japan and they wanted to
insure that I send their extreme gratitude.
Sincerely,
Chad Bosler
