Corporate Update - Impacts by Natural Disasters
SMC Corporation wishes to express our deepest sympathies to all
the people suffering from the Tohoku earthquake that occurred on
March 11, 2011.
The following is the current status of our business.
In regards to SMC's factories (Soka, Tsukuba, Yamatsuri,
Kamaishi, Tono), there is no damage to the machinery and
facilities, and production is operating smoothly.
The rate of employees reporting for work
Currently, all factories are operational. The rate of employees
reporting for work on the 28th was, Tono factory (Iwate Prefecture,
Tono City) approximately 80%, Kamaishi factory (Iwate Prefecture,
Kamaishi City) approximately 70%, with nearly normal rates at all
remaining factories.
Impact of the scheduled blackouts
According to TEPCO (Tokyo Electric Power Company), the only
factory that falls within the regions outlined in the scheduled
blackouts is the Soka factory (Saitama Prefecture, Soka City). The
remaining 4 factories are being supplied with normal levels of
electricity.
The scheduled blackouts are not carried out every day. Even on
scheduled days, the blackout time is 2 to 3 hours per day.
In regards to the Soka factory, near normal levels of operation
have been ensured using in-house power generation equipment.
Impact of the nuclear power plant accident
Amongst our factories, the closest factory to the Fukushima 1
nuclear power plant is the Yamatsuri factory (Fukushima Prefecture,
Yamatsuri Town) and this is located over 80km (50 miles) away from
the nuclear power plant.
