SMC Corporation Donates to Purdue Polytechnic Institute Anderson

PRESS RELEASE --- Noblesville, IN -- April 27, 2016

SMC Corporation of America a leading global pneumatics and industrial automation components manufacturer located in Noblesville, Indiana, has made an in-kind donation to Purdue Polytechnic Institute Anderson to support its new campus under construction at 2900 W. Scatterfield Road in Anderson, Indiana.

The in-kind donation comprises of the following pneumatic components: solenoid valves, air cylinders, air filtration equipment and refrigerated air dryers to decontaminate compressed air, for a total market value in excess of $500,000. These components will be installed in the new building’s infrastructure supplying filtered, pressurized air for the Mechatronics Lab and classrooms; other stand alone and loose components will be designated as learning tools and integrated into the Engineering Technology and Industrial Engineering Technology curricula.

“We are extremely excited about SMC’s support and donation to Purdue Polytechnic Anderson.  This generous gift will provide cutting edge pneumatic equipment along with a significant amount of dedicated engineering consulting to incorporate that technology into the classrooms and labs of our new Manufacturing Technology Engineering Degree. The state of the art engineering technology lab is where students will learn both the technical and enterprise aspects of advanced manufacturing. We are pleased to name the new engineering technology lab the ‘SMC Mechatronics Laboratory’,” said Corey Sharp, Director at Purdue Polytechnic Anderson.

In 2009, SMC Corporation relocated its North American headquarters from Marion County to Noblesville, near the corner of E. 146th Street and Cumberland Road. In October 2012, it underwent another 600,000 square-foot expansion to bring the total floor space to 1.5 million square feet increasing production and engineering facilities.

“Partnering with Purdue Polytechnic Institute Anderson and the ‘Made in Anderson’ initiative is a natural extension of SMC’s commitment to support local Indiana and domestic manufacturing across all spectrums of industries from traditional manufacturing such as: automotive and food & packaging to high tech manufacturing such as: semiconductors and life sciences,” said John Halvorsen, Director of Marketing at SMC Corporation of America.
