Research and development aiming at the future.

Automation is changing rapidly due to the continual demand for increased sophistication and simplification placed on its various components. Thus, the Research and Development groups at SMC
are directed towards keeping up with this trend. Smaller, faster, multi-functional components are a high priority as are the application of electronics and sensing to pneumatics and other devices.

The Research and Development groups are geared towards satisfying both individual customers
and general markets. SMC's policy of tandem product development on a customer
and industry basis allows rapid tracking of the winding path of
automation development.
Tsukuba Technical Center
The Tsukuba Technical Center was opened in 1991 in Yawara, Ibaragi Prefecture, Japan. This center, located on an immense site of 25,000 square meters, is where the majority of research and development is concentrated.
In September 2000, a second complex was built to serve as the mainstay of research and development for the next generation.
