As most companies are already aware, the RoHS deadline of July 1, 2006 is rapidly approaching. This means that in order to be ready, action must be taken now!
SMC standard products by themselves are outside the scope of the RoHS directive and therefore not required to be compliant. However, SMC’s Mission recognizes that the conservation of the earth’s environment is one of the most important challenges facing human beings and that its contribution is to develop and supply environmentally friendly products.
As a result, SMC is committed to transitioning the vast majority of our products to meet the RoHS directive. Our current product line will become RoHS compliant as we exhaust our existing non-compliant inventory.
SMC recognizes that specific customers may be using our products in a manner that could require them to be compliant so we will provide mechanisms to identify products that are “green” as they become available. We also realize that some customers may not be able to wait for a “green” product to be phased in. To account for this, RoHS products will be orderable from December 1st 2005 for specific customer applications upon request.
