Pneumatic Actuators
Pneumatic actuators are core components of industrial automation. They use compressed air to push, pull, lift, and rotate articles in a wide range of industries, including manufacturing, food processing, and packaging. Our broad product line includes linear, guided, rotary, and rodless actuators, as well as grippers, clamps, stoppers, and cylinders for specific industrial applications. They are ubiquitous in food and beverage processing, electronics and semiconductor manufacturing, and automotive assembly. SMC produces pneumatic cylinders in more sizes and specialty configurations than any other manufacturer and has a product for almost any required bore size, stroke length, or mounting style. They are ideal for large scale operations where downtime is expensive and the ability to replace a part quickly and cost-effectively is essential.
Directional Control Valves
Directional control valves open, close, or change the path of compressed air to control the movement of actuators and grippers. They are used to automate machinery, sequence robot activity, and regulate air flow. SMC directional control valves have a well-deserved reputation for reliability, low energy consumption, and effortless integration with digital control networks such as EtherNet/IP, EtherCAT, and IO-Link. Our valves offer a unique combination of high flow capacity, small size, and efficient use of power. Airline Equipment
Airline equipment is an air preparation solution that cleans and lubricates air so that it can be safely and effectively used in a pneumatic system to protect downstream components from contamination and damage. Its modular Filter-Regulator-Lubricator (FRL) design allows maintenance personnel to replace parts quickly without unthreading the pipe fittings. Variants are available for cleanroom, anti-static, and chemical environments and can be customized to any standard a facility requires.
Air Dryers & Main Line Filters
Air preparation equipment conditions hot, wet, and dirty air before it enters a pneumatic system. The product line includes Filter-Regulator-Lubricator (FRL) units, modular air filters, mist separators, pressure regulators, air dryers, main line filters, auto-drain valves, and pressure gauges. It is modular and intuitive, making installation and maintenance less labor intensive than with other systems. There is a large choice of standard options that are readily available which reduces downtime in the event of a part failure.
Fittings Tubing & Speed Controls
Connectors and fittings connect air hoses to pneumatic valves, actuators, and air preparation Filter-Regulator-Lubricators and offer a reliable, leak free way to deliver compressed air. SMC's one-touch, push to connect fittings allow users to push the tube into the fitting and lock it, enabling quick repairs on the factory floor. Products are available in standard resins, stainless steel, brass, weather resistant POM, and fluoropolymers.The newer generation of fittings is designed to be smaller and lighter than older models, allowing engineers to put more lines in smaller spaces.
Vacuum Products
Vacuum products use compressed air to generate a vacuum, allowing suction cups to gently lift and move objects for pick-and-place industrial automation. They can handle fragile, soft, and awkwardly shaped products that might be damaged by a mechanical gripper. The product line includes vacuum generators, suction cups, vacuum filters, vacuum sensors, and collaborative robot vacuum grippers. The generator, air supply valve, release valve, and sensor are combined into small, lightweight units that optimize cycle time for high speed robotics. The vacuum generators reduce energy costs by automatically shutting off the air supply once the required vacuum level is reached. SMC vacuum products are designed for high volume material handling and integrate seamlessly with our other pneumatic systems, allowing them to work together on the same communication protocol.
Industrial Communication
Industrial communication products connect PLCs with equipment on the factory floor, allowing machines to send commands, receive sensor feedback, and diagnose faults over digital networks. They consolidate hundreds of signals into a single network cable and enable smart factory best practices such as instant communication between components and are indispensable in complex manufacturing environments such as automotive body welding lines, high-speed packaging, and robotic warehouses. The XW1 and EX600-W wireless fieldbus systems transmit valve control and sensor data wirelessly over industrial 2.4 GHz bands and are protocol agnostic. In addition to the XW1 and EX600-W, The product line includes the EX600 modular I/O system, IO-Link master hubs, and networked electric cylinder controllers, and sensors.
Sensors, Switches & Controllers
Pressure and flow sensor solutions provide feedback loops for pneumatic devices. They monitor air pressure, vacuum levels, flow rates, and cylinder piston positions and convert that information into electrical signals for the machine's PLC. The compact pressure and vacuum sensors feature multi-color, 3-screen digital displays, integrate with modern network protocols, and are compatible with SMC's entire product portfolio. The product line includes auto switches, airflow sensors, liquid flow switches, electropneumatic regulators, and positive pressure and vacuum sensors and can be customized for harsh environments.
Fluid Process
Fluid process equipment manages the flow of liquids and gases. It’s designed to safely control water, steam, chemicals, pure water, and machine coolants. This product group includes general-purpose 2-way and 3-way valves, specialized valves for high-temperature steam or heated water, dust collector valves, diaphragm process pumps, specialized valves for automotive color-changing lines and industrial filters for water and fluid systems. These components are used to meet the strict hygiene standards of the food and beverage processing industry, at water treatment facilities, for automotive manufacturing, and in the semiconductor industry for pure water and harsh chemicals. These products feature high flow capacities, a small footprint, and specialized internal coils that reduce power consumption. They are easily actuated by pilot air valves or when wired into standard IO-Link communication hubs, which makes integrating a water or chemical valve into a robotic work cell fuss-free compared to a standalone process brand.
2 Way Valves
2-way valves (also known as 2-port valves) are on/off gates for fluid control. They automatically allow or block the flow of a single fluid line and are engineered to handle water, oil, heated water, steam, vacuum, and NSF61-certified drinking water. They offer high flow capacity in a light, compact body and have specialized power-saving coils that consume much less electrical power than older, traditional solenoid designs. They can be configured by port size, seal material, and pressure rating and are available in a variety of body materials such as brass, stainless steel, aluminum, and resin.
Industrial Ionizers
Industrial ionizers neutralize static electricity on factory floors by discharging a balanced stream of positive and negative ions into the air. They are used in semiconductor fabrication, electronics assembly, plastics and polymer manufacturing, and pharmaceutical manufacturing to keep static shocks from damaging microchips or causing plastic film to cling to machine rollers. SMC ionizers offer rapid neutralization and can be wired into a PLC with IO-Link, allowing the computer to monitor the ion balance. The product line includes bar, nozzle, fan, and gun ionizers, with options for IP66 rated products and units with modular remote controls.
Electric Actuators
Electric cylinders produce precise, controllable physical motion using stepper or servo motors turning a ballscrew or belt to move loads. The product line includes slider, rod, guided rod, and rotary cylinders, electric slide tables, electric grippers, and the necessary controllers and drivers to run them. They are used when a product requires precise or multi-position placement and when a compressed air supply is not available. The position, acceleration and deceleration rates, and force levels can be programmed an infinite number of ways. Electric actuators are available with absolute encoders so rehoming isn't needed at startup and with easy-to-program built in encoders. They also have the same footprint as pneumatic cylinders, making it easy to replace an old air cylinder with a new electric one.
Industrial Chillers
Industrial chillers are precise temperature control systems that regulate the heat generated during a manufacturing process. SMC chillers feature industry-leading temperature stability, a compact footprint, and reliable system performance for 24/7 factory operations. The inverter-driven compressors and electronic expansion valves can hold temperature stability to ±0.1°C; precision that is required in semiconductor manufacturing and laser optics. They are designed with a compact footprint to conserve factory floor space, with some units small enough to be integrated into the machine's electrical cabinet, and a dual channel chiller for lasers that can perform process cooling with one unit instead of two.
Process Gas Equipment
Our process gas equipment is engineered to handle gases that are used in advanced manufacturing, such as argon, nitrogen, and helium, and which require components that won't contaminate the gas or emit dangerous fumes into the factory. They are assembled in cleanrooms and feature smooth, polished stainless steel internals that prevent corrosion and particle accumulation and ensure zero leaks. They are used primarily by semiconductor fabrication plants, flat-panel display manufacturers, photovoltaic producers, and medical laboratories. The product line includes process gas pressure regulators, diaphragm valves, and specialized check valves, vacuum generators, and flow switches built for these environments.
High Vacuum
High vacuum products isolate, vent, and control the flow of gases for processes that need to happen in a complete vacuum. They are used extensively by semiconductor fabrication plants, flat-panel display manufacturers, and photovoltaic producers to seal large vacuum chambers so that no ambient oxygen or dust interferes with the process at a molecular level. The product line includes angle and in-line valves, slit valves, high vacuum solenoid valves, and specialty valves, including valves with built-in, integrated, replaceable heaters and smooth vent valves that slowly meter gas back into the vacuum chamber.
Chemical Handling Equipment
SMC chemical handling equipment safely transports and controls the chemicals used to clean and etch silicon wafers. They are constructed from fluoropolymers which are chemically inert, resist corrosion, and don't generate particulate contamination. The product line includes high purity valves and manifolds, specialized chemical handling fittings with flared tubing styles, fluoropolymer tubing, and dedicated flow switches for monitoring chemical flow rates. These products have a small footprint, use integrated sensors, and are pneumatically driven.
Cobot Gripping Solutions
Cobot gripping solutions bolt directly onto the wrists of collaborative robots (cobots). This product line includes pneumatic grippers, electric grippers, vacuum grippers, magnet grippers, and dedicated accessories like compact compressors, gripper fingers, and gripper adapters. They are designed to be plug-and-play with major cobot brands which reduces deployment time. They bring pneumatic gripping power to electric robots by employing blocks that mount directly to the robot arm, and incorporating onboard air compressors. Our cobot grippers are built on the same multi-million cycle internal mechanisms as our heavy-industry cylinders, making them reliable and long-lasting.
Secondary Battery
Secondary battery products are used for manufacturing rechargeable batteries, primarily the lithium-ion cells used in electric vehicles and consumer electronics. The product line is a specialized cross-section of products that include secondary battery actuators, directional control valves, air filters, connectors, vacuum equipment, and electric actuators that are designed to be copper-free and zinc-free, and use proprietary greases formulated to survive extreme dry-room conditions. Facility managers can source all of their dry room products from SMC.
Air Management System
The AMS is a smart, network-connected air preparation and monitoring suite. It tracks compressed air consumption and automatically reduces or shuts off the air flow during machine idle times, increasing the system's efficiency and saving money. It features products like the AMS assembly, IO-Link compatible hubs, standby regulators, and residual pressure relief valves. Compressed air is expensive to generate and idle consumption wastes electricity. The AMS solves this by monitoring flow and pressure, establishing baseline usage to detect leaks, and shutting down air flow when a machine is not actively producing parts. The product group centers around intelligent manifold assemblies that combine pressure regulators, flow sensors, and shut-off valves into a single, network-connected node that is compatible with protocols like IO-Link and OPC UA. The cost to implement the system is offset quickly by air compressor electricity savings.
