Brewery Operations

The AFF70~90 improves upon the performance of the legacy AFF with a 1 μm particulate rating and water removal capabilities.  Installation space is reduced by integrating the traditional AFF filtering function with the water removal capabilities of the AMG.  Additionally, flow capacities are improved for greater applicability.  A lightweight stainless steel bowl assembly improves handling and simplifies service.

The legacy series AM mist separators range from 1/8" to 2" and feature a rugged aluminum housing.  These coalescing filters are nominally rated at 0.3 micron for an initial stage of oil removal after a particulate filter.

Series AMF activated carbon filters adsorb oil vapors remaining after coalescing filters to provide nearly oil-free air.  This legacy series features a rugged all aluminum housing for durable installation.

Series IDFB*E refrigerted air dryers are suitable for use in aftercooled systems with compressors up to ~100 hp (depending on dew point desired).  These durable units have simple control systems and are easily serviced.

Clean regulator series SRH is a contamination controlled stainless steel regulator designed to minimize residual fluid. Design includes an intake/exhaust port in the diaphragm compartment, which facilitates flow. SRH has outstanding corrosion resistance. All metal parts in contact with fluid use stainless steel SUS316.

SF series clean air filters are available as cartridge type or disposable type models.  The filtration level is 0.01 micron (filtering efficiency of 99.99%) on units with membrane elements.  The SFB20, with a sintered metallic element, has a nominal filtration of 120 micron.  The SF series can be used under different environments with chemical resistant and heat resistant materials (refer to catalog specifications for each series).

ISE20A is a digital pressure sensor with an informative, easy to read 3 screen, 3 color display.  The main screen shows the instantaneous reading in red or green, while two sub-screens can display the setting label and its numeric value in orange.  Compared to the ISE20, the ISE20A adds a 2nd switch output, as well as an analog voltage or current output.  The switch output responds within 1.5ms once the set pressure value is reached.  Response time can be adjusted to reduce chattering.  ISE20A is UL/CSA, CE and RoHS compliant, with an IP40 enclosure rating.

Quick change filter series FQ1 requires no tools for replacement of the element. Element replacement, including removing liquid, can be accomplished in less than 2 minutes. Element sizes include 125mm, 250mm and 500mm. Materials include PP, cotton, SUS304 (epoxy resin) and SUS316 (nickel solder). Other elements are available as made-to-order.

The VND series is a 2 port valve for steam control up to 180°C. It is available with copper alloy or stainless steel body and also as normally open or normally closed valve.

Series PF3W7-Z digital flow sensor constantly monitors water or coolant flow.  All "Z" models have redesigned piping adapters, imparting a 13-53% weight reduction depending on flow range.  PF3W7 features an integrated 3-color, 2-screen display.  Options include a manual flow adjustment valve and temperature sensor.  The instantaneous flow value can be displayed on the main screen, while temperature can be monitored on the subscreen.  Change color from green to red or vice versa to indicate a flow set point has been reached. The white subscreen can also show the set point, accumulated or peak/bottom value, or a line name instead of the temperature.  The display rotates in both clockwise and counter-clockwise directions, offering improved readability during operation.  Switch and analog voltage or current signal outputs can be read over the M8 cable.  PF3W7-Z is IP65 rated, and is both RoHS and CE compliant.

Series PA is a double acting, compact, large capacity diaphragm pump suitable for transfer and recovery of a wide variety of fluids. The PA series is available in 3 types; automatically operated, air operated or automatically operated with a built-in pulsation attenuator.

The PB series is a compact, single acting diaphragm pump which is suitable for transfer and recovery of a wide variety of fluids. The PB series is available with a built-in solenoid valve or in an air operated style. Space is saved due to the centralization of piping and wiring areas on the top and bottom surfaces.

PF2D5 is a remote flow sensor for deionized water and liquids non-reactive with fluoropolymer.  This sensor employs the Karman vortex principle for detection.  PF2D5 can be paired with a PF2D200 or PF2D300 remote monitor to display instantaneous or accumulated flow values.  An optional analog output is also available.  PF2D5 is IP65 rated and CE and RoHS compliant.

The SRF30 series is designed to regulate DI water and N2 gas in the clean room. Fluoro resin material is used in the fluid contact area. The fluid contact area is washed with freon ultra sonic and DI water.

Series LVQ is a 2 port chemical valve with a non-metallic exterior. A high density PVDF housing offers increased chemical resistance and the special diaphragm construction insures gentle opening and closing preventing the formation of micro-bubbles. The LVQ guide ring eliminates lateral motion of the poppet, which reduces internal leakage.

S coupler series KK employs a unique connection method. A slim body design and large effective area are achieved with a construction that does not use steel balls or valve springs and therefore does not restrict the flow path. Together with a reduction of the body size, pressing parts and resin parts are used to achieve an overall weight reduction.

SMC One-touch tube fittings come in metric and inch size pneumatic fittings and are available in a wide variety of sizes, body styles and thread types. The specially designed packing provides positive sealing under pressure without the reduced flow common with compression fittings. SMC offers one touch tube fittings in a number of special environments such as anti-static, flame resistant, clean room, DOT, and food service fittings.

SMC high purity Hyperflare™ Fitting series LQ* responds to the latest demands in process control. From parts cleaning to assembly and packaging, all processes are controlled for cleanliness, and the use of new PFA virtually eliminates particle generation and TOC (total organic carbon) allowing confident use for the most demanding applications. If chemistries or flow requirements are changed during process, our face seal design allows for quick change of tubing, and/or tube diameters, using the same fitting body.

SMC manufactures Fluoro-resin tubing for use in environments involving high temperatures and/or corrosive fluids. Pneumatic tubing is also available in a number of other materials both with and without reinforcement for use in standard applications. SMC fittings incorporate a positive tube seal while the fitting is under pressure which allows polyurethane tubing to be used. Tubing is available in sizes of 1/8", 5/32", 3/16", 1/4", 5/16", 3/8", and 1/2". Metric tubing sizes of 3.2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, and 16mm are available.

The IZT bar ionizer is an industrial static control solution.  Bar ionizers generate a curtain of static eliminating ions effective for a distance up to 2000mm/6.5 ft.  The IZT's low profile is also ideal for tight clearance installations.  Compared to SMC's IZS4 bar ionizers, the power supply and control modules have been separated from the bar, resulting in a reduction in bar height.  IZT bars can be placed closer to static-carriying materials in more confined adjacent spaces.  The separate controller can be mounted in a workstation for easier access and observation during operation.  Models include the standard IZT40, the IZT41 which adds auto-balance, emitter maintenance detection, and I/O signals, and the IZT42 with low amplitude ion generation for sensitive electronics.  Extending the value of IZT, one controller can manage a maximum of 4 ionizing bars.  Needle cartridges are easily removed, without tools, for cleaning or end-of-life replacement, futher extending this ionizer's value.

SMC's low cost positioning cylinder, series MPC offers a cylinder, solenoid valve, linear positioner, and controller in one package.  With its integral position control, the MPC needs only 4-20mA input signal. The target position is kept by opening and closing solenoid valves controlling pressure on the cylinder.  The MPC has an output signal to give position feedback to a customer's controller.  Standard ball bushings protect against side load.

A built-in strainer in the pilot valve prevents trouble caused by foreign matter. By using H-NBR seal material for the main valve and seals, Ozone resistance has been improved. Side, top and bottom port/pipe directions are available to allow flexible installation. The SY is available in body ported or base mounted styles, and can be used individually or manifold mounted.

Dust collector reverse pulse jet valves are the filter cleaning components for baghouses (dust collection systems) for preventing dust explosions by removing particulates from the air.  The JSXFA dust collector valve is engineered with a robust elastomer diaphragm that requires no spring to shift, enhancing its service life to 10 million plus cycles while producing faster response times and energy savings.

The JSXFA diaphragm valve will open and close rapidly to create a short, intense blast of air with sonic shock wave to dislodge accumulated dust from bag filters and cartridge filters without disrupting regular operations.

The JSXFA can be actuated by either solenoid or air operated pilot valves, available with enclosures.

The MGPM-X2532 is a compact guide cylinder with external stainless steel construction. It features improved corrosion resistance in environments exposed to water over the standard and -XC6 variants of the MGPM series.

The specialty regulator series VBA is a booster regulator that saves money and energy by increasing the main line pressure up to two times. The booster regulator, when connected to air supply line, increases pressure up to two times and the main air supply pressure may be set low. Desired pressure increase can be easily adjusted.

Series KP are one-touch fittings for clean room blow-off systems and drive air systems. The KP series is completely oil free and liquid-contact areas are non-metallic. Parts are cleaned, assembled and double packaged in a clean room. Resin parts for one-touch series KPQ/KPG (for drive system air piping) are polypropylene.

Power valve series VEX includes a regulator valve (VEX1*0), precision regulator (VEX1*3), 3 position valve (VEX3) and a economy valve (VEX5). The 3 port large capacity poppet exhausting regulator is equipped with a relief port the same size as the connection port. The 3-port, 3-position double solenoid that permits vacuum suction, vacuum destruction, & suspension (closed) is ideal for a system where many valves are used.

The CG5-S series is a stainless steel cylinder that uses grease for food processing machines that meets FDA standards. The CG5-S series can be disassembled for replacement of seals which extends the service life of the cylinder. All stainless steel specification for external parts. Mounting bracket surfaces have been electropolished, making them smoother to prevent build-up of liquids and foreign matter. Plugs are provided for unused mounting threads to prevent residue build-up in the threads.

The ZH-X185 is versatile and can function either as a blow off unit or a vacuum unit depending on the direction of the output port.  There is only one supply port and with available mounting brackets, it is very easy to install.

The AM70~90D series of mist separators feature a lightweight stainless steel body for improved ease of handling during service.  Flow capabilities are improved beyond the legacy AM series for extended applicability.  Thes coalescing filters are nominally rated at 0.1 micron for an initial stage of oil removal after a particulate filter.

Series VMG has a large effective area of 0.05in² (30mm²), without nozzle. Pressure loss is 0.725psi (0.005MPa) or less when nozzle bore size 2.5mm is used.  Piping direction is optional from the top or bottom.  Available nozzles include: male thread; high efficiency; low noise w/male thread; and extension nozzles.

Accumulated static electricity causes problems in the manufacturing environment.  Plastic wrap, foam packing, or labels cling and attract dust and dirt, causing misapplication or contamination.  Excess static  charge damages sensitive electronic components.  Even comfort and safety of personnel can be compromised.

The C85 series conforms to ISO 6432 and CETOP RP52P. The C85 is available in bore sizes 8mm through 25mm with standard strokes ranging from 10mm through 300mm. A unique rod packing design prevents entry of dust and the effectiveness of the seal is such that the C85 is suitable for use in extremely dusty environments. With abrasion resistant packings and replaceable piston rod seals, the C85 offers exceptional service life.

High speed or high load cylinder applications frequently require additional speed and flow control devices to control the stopping of the load. SMC's RHC series features a longer cushion design which is capable of stopping heavy or high speed loads while maintaining the simplicity of a standard air cushion cylinder. This enhanced cushion allows the kinetic distance, which results in the ability to absorb up to 23.8 ft-lb of energy and operate reliably at speeds up to 118 in/sec. Even with the improved performance of the RHC, cushion adjustment remains as simple as adjusting the cushion needle valve. 

Series CM2-Z stainless steel cylinders are compact, lightweight and offer high performance. The piston seal and rod seal design provides excellent life. Transparent auto switch bracket provides visibility of the status of the switch. The CM2-Z series delivers extra flexibility including the option of male and female rods. Where space is at a premium, you can select a female rod end (up to 29 mm shorter) and/or boss-cut type (up to 16 mm shorter). Rubber bumpers are standard. The CM2-Z series offers a variety of mounting options.

The ZK2*A series is an energy-saving generator with 93% reduced air consumption.  It has a 50% increase in suction flow compared to other single stage SMC generators.  The ZK2*A also has various mounting options to choose from.

Suction Cups are designed in a range of 19 diameters from 2mm to 200mm for use in delicate or heavy applications. SMC suction cups are available to fit many unusual shapes and are constructed from a variety of premium materials such as Silicon, NBR, Urethane, Fluorine etc. Installation options can be specified on either spring loaded buffers or threaded stems. Special application cups are also available such as check valve, porous material, annulus area etc.

Series ITV electro-pneumatic and electronic vacuum regulators control air/vacuum pressure steplessly in proportion to an electric signal. They are light weight in design with a bright and easy to read LED display. The monitor output is available either as analog output or switch output. The ITV series is IP65 equivalent.

The CQ2 compact cylinder is the world's best selling pneumatic cylinder and can be supported globally. The CQ2 is available in 15 bore sizes from 12mm to 200mm. It comes standard with male or female piston rod threads. 42 standard options make it one of the most versatile cylinder series on the market. For mounting flexibility, it is possible to mount auto switches on any of the 4 surfaces.

Series KFG2 fittings can operate with ambient operating fluid temperatures of -65 to 260ºC (swivel elbow type -5 to 150ºC). With their stainless steel 316 construction and unique non-rubber seal insert connection, these grease-free fittings offer high levels of corrosion resistance, and can be used with numerous piping materials including FEP, PFS, soft and regular nylon, polyurethane and polyoelfin. Available in male elbow, male connector, male branch tee, straight union, union tee, bulkhead union, union elbow, swivel elbow and female connector options, the KFG2 fittings can accommodate tube sizes from 4mm to 16mm and 1/8" to 1/2" with port sized thread connections from R1/8 to R1/2 and 1/8NPT to 1/2NPT.

A rodless cylinder with magnetic coupling differs from a basic air cylinder in that no piston rod extends outside the cylinder body. Instead, the internal piston is connected to an external carriage. SMC's rodless cylinders are ideal for long stroke applications because they are unaffected by rod overhang, bending, piston binding, and uneven seal wear, and for use in confined areas where space is a premium.

Series NCA1 medium duty tie rod cylinders are NFPA interchangeable, have a crimped piston rod assembly, are pre-lubricated and available in 11 mounting styles. Bore sizes range from 1.5 to 4 inches. The NCA1 expanded line of medium duty cylinders offer bore sizes ranging from 5 to 8 inches, and come standard with adjustable air cushion.

The VQC series has five standard wiring packages bringing a world of ease to wiring and maintenance work, while the protective enclosures of three of them conform to IP67 standards for protection from dust and moisture. The use of multi-pin connectors to replace wiring inside manifold blocks provides flexibility when adding stations or changing manifold configuration. The VQC series has outstanding response times and long life.

Vacuum Generator series ZL series is a multi-stage, high-efficiency vacuum generator, which operates at 150% efficiency (compared to about 40% for other units). For each scfm of compressed air it consumes, the ZL generates an incredible 1.587 scfm of suction flow. The ZL is available with a built-in vacuum switch with digital readout for design flexibility. Other features include built-in suction filter, exhaust silencer, and one-touch tube fittings. Its' compact design allows for mounting from three sides.

SMC's hygienic design cylinders, series HY, offers significantly improved water resistance by adopting a new lubricating construction. The cylinder's flat configuration (grooves for auto switches and holes for cushion needles, etc. have been eliminated) allow the surface to be wiped off easily.

High purity fluoropolymer tubing is available as standard in metric and inch sizes. These series has outstanding corrosion resistance, compatible with chemicals such as acids, bases and ultrapure water.

VFN2120N-X36 is a hygienic solenoid valve with standard NAMUR interface. The valve PPS resin body provides excellent high temperature and chemical/corrosion resistance for use in wash down applications (IP67). A 5-pin M12 electrical connection is used for waterproof sealing. With power consumption of only 0.5W, it is the most energy efficient valve with NAMUR interface on the market. It can also be used with AS-i bus system. VFN2120-X36 is available for 24 VDC or 110 VAC operation.

The ZP3P series suction cups are made of a silicone rubber that is compliant with FDA21CFRSS1772600. The blue colored pad can be easily distinguished during contamination inspections. The sealing skirt design reduces leakage and offers a better sealing performance for this film. Also incorporated into the design is a stopper support in the center to help wrinkle prevention on thin work pieces during adsorption.

SMC has a range of standard, made to order, and specialized cylinders with a combination of stainless steel construction, water resistant seals, and special rod scrapers designed to prevent corrosion from exposure to water or coolant.

Pneumatic components used in a dusty environment require a different design mindset. The designs must incorporate a method of sealing the dusty outside from the internal pneumatic components as well as limiting electrical and thermal energy. Static electricity control is also a consideration in bulk and powder applications. SMC has products that are specifically designed to be used these types of applications.

Filter – regulator – lubricator combinations with external epoxy coating of metal surfaces for use in aggressive or washdown environments.

EX260 series is a compact and cost effective fieldbus solution for output applicable to SMC's most popular directional control valves such as New SY, SV, VQC, and S0700 Series. It can control up to 32 solenoids in one manifold. Available protocols are EtherNet/IP™, PROFINET®, EtherCAT®, PROFIBUS DP®, DeviceNet™ and CC-Link. EX260 series has standard dual port connectivity to eliminate the need of switches or branch connector, reducing wiring and component cost. IP67 enclosure rating ensures protection against dust and washdown environment.

The VQ20/30 series is a pilot operated, two port multi-media valve. The series is compact and lightweight with a large flow capacity. The VQ20/30's long life, high speed coil (up to 20 million cycles at 100cps for pneumatic use) along with its all plastic construction make it an excellent choice for those who want high performance at a lower cost.

With the release of the KN series nozzles and gauge heads 30~90% of air consumption required for the current nozzle operation can be saved with the appropriate selection of the new nozzle and sizing. Many variations of nozzle are available with tube materials including nylon, soft nylon, soft copper pipe and OST tubing. Sizes range from 4mm-20mm.

SMC offers a range of products comforming to the ISO13849-1 safety standard, categories 2, 3 & 4. Redundant systems can be easily constructed to ensure safe and robust operation. 

Series KE pressure relief valve with one-touch fitting can release residual pressure from a cylinder to the atmosphere by the push button. The two types of available piping are the one-touch fitting type and the Rc(PT) screw type.

SMC has numerous solutions for load drop prevention. End lock cylinders lock and hold the load at the end of stroke. Locking cylinders have the ability to lock a load anywhere within the stroke. Series ASP is a speed controller with an integrated pilot check valve. This combination makes it possible to control cylinder speeds and permits temporary intermediate stops. 5-port solenoid valve combines the double check block with a 3-position exhaust center solenoid valve will enable the cylinder to stop in the middle of maintain its position for long periods of time.

The VHS series provides a convenient means of isolating supplied pressure in a pneumatic system and exhausting downstream pressure for maintenance purposes. The units can be locked in the exhaust position and can be an integral part of an energy isolation system. Air flow direction is easily identified by handle orientation and labelling. They can be used alone or can be conveniently connected to an FRL assembly using modular spacers.

Series AVL adds lock-out capability to the basic AV series design to permit safe servicing of the equipment once the pneumatic supply has been shut off.  The black button on a yellow body aids in identifying the valve as a pneumatic disconnect.  It is available with multiple operating voltage choices as a manually operated valve with no power requirements.
